DANIELSON, Conn. (AP) - An 87-year-old man accused of killing his wife has been sent to a Connecticut state psychiatric hospital, after being found incompetent to stand trial.
A state judge on Monday placed former Killingly resident Thomas Kelly in the custody of the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, which will evaluate Kelly at Whiting Forensic Institute in Middletown.
The Bulletin of Norwich reports (https://bit.ly/1h10X1f ) that after the evaluation, the case would go before a probate court judge who would decide where to put Kelly. The choices include his daughter’s Massachusetts home or a psychiatric hospital.
Kelly was charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of 81-year-old Jacqueline Kelly in their Killingly home in 2009. Police say Thomas Kelly was found unconscious next to a bottle of alcohol in the home.
