ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Stretches of the New York State Canal system remain closed by high water from heavy rains that fell across the region last week.
The state Canal Corp. says Monday that the Erie Canal is closed from Lock E-7 in Niskayuna in Schenectady County to Lock E-30 in Macedon in Wayne County, and from Lock E-32 at Pittsford to the Genesee River.
The Cayuga-Seneca and Oswego canals also are closed.
The Erie Canal is open from Lock E-30 to Lock E-32, and from the Genesee River at Rochester to Tonawanda, north of Buffalo. The Champlain Canal is also open.
Canal officials say bridge clearances may be lower along open stretches of the waterway where water levels remain high.
Officials say some stretches may remain closed for up to 10 days.
