SANFORD, Maine (AP) - Maine fire marshals are still investigating a backyard pit fire that badly burned a 2-week-old Sanford, Maine, infant.

Police say Callum Jeising suffered second- and third-degree burns when his father’s coat caught on fire while he was holding the child on Wednesday night. Police said the father, 43-year-old Dirk Jeising, had been drinking, but it was unclear if that played a role in the accident.

A spokesman for Shriner’s Hospital in Boston, where the child was transferred, declined to comment on the child’s condition.
