BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) - Binghamton police say a city police officer and a former officer have died after the motorcycle they were riding crashed on a city road.

Police Chief Joseph Zikuski tells media outlets Monday that 28-year-old Officer Katie Brown and former officer Christopher Stoeckel were killed in a crash around 10:15 Sunday night.

A family friend tells the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin (https://press.sn/1qQeanp ) the two were engaged.

Police say Stoeckel apparently lost control and hit a guide rail while driving at high speed on state Route 434. Toxicology results are pending.

The newspaper reports that Stoeckel was charged with driving while intoxicated and suspended without pay in October 2012 when he showed up for work smelling of alcohol. His trial was expected next month.
