ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The Kent County sheriff’s department says a 63-year-old man was killed when a dead tree fell on him as he tried to cut it down with a chain saw.
Sgt. Roger Zoppa tells The Grand Rapids Press and WOOD-TV that the accident happened Sunday in Algoma Township, about 15 miles north of Grand Rapids.
Zoppa says that James Overzet and his wife were attempting to fell the tree, which became entangled in other trees on property behind the family’s home.
The sergeant says Overset’s wife left and returned to find her husband trapped beneath the tree. Zoppa says that emergency responders were unable to revive Overzet.
