NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say a northern New Jersey couple found shot to death inside their home apparently died in a murder-suicide.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says 46-year-old Ana Luisa Peralta De Fermin and her 52-year-old husband, Alberto Fermin-Alomar, were found dead in their Newark home Saturday night by Newark police.

Officers had gone to the Lincoln Avenue home around 5:30 p.m. on a report of an injured person.

Murray said Sunday that the preliminary investigation reveals Fermin-Alomar shot his wife and then killed himself. But a possible motive was not disclosed.

Further details on the shooting, including what type of weapon was used have not been disclosed.

The shooting is being investigated by the Major Crimes Task Force in the prosecutor’s office.
