LOWER MAKEFIELD, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been killed after being struck by two vehicles on Interstate 95 and his friend is hospitalized after he was hit while trying to help in an accident that shutdown the roadway for five hours.

WPVI-TV reports (https://6abc.cm/1mI6qQ2) that 30-year-old Benjamin Melendez was killed around midnight Sunday after trying to cross I-95 in Lower Makefield. Police say he was trying to reach a friend who came to help after the car he was in broke down near the Newtown-Yardley exit.

Police say the 26-year-old driver of the car that broke down, Daniel Raymond, was trying to drag him from the road when both were hit by another car.

Melendez was pronounced dead at the scene and Raymond was taken to St. Mary Medical Center with unknown injuries.
