CAREFREE, Ariz. (AP) - Divers have recovered the body of a teenager who drowned at Bartlett Lake.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chris Hegstrom says that 17-year-old Pablo Salgado failed to resurface while swimming Saturday around 9:40 a.m.

Hegstrom says the boy’s body was located about three hours later in Rattlesnake Cove in an area with about 8 feet of water.

The boy was with a church group as well as family members.

Witnesses told authorities that Salgado had swam back and forth across the cove twice but appeared to be struggling during a third trip.

Bartlett Lake is located about 20 miles east of Carefree, a suburb on the Phoenix area’s northeastern outskirts.

Hegstrom says he had not confirmed where the teen was from.
