FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) - Murder charges have been filed against a central New Jersey man accused of strangling his girlfriend in their apartment while their 3-year-old child slept in the next room
Monmouth County prosecutors say bail was set at $1 million cash for 24-year-old Sender Neftali Villatoro Reyes of Freehold.
Thirty-one-year-old Lucenay Fermin Gallegos was unresponsive when police officers responded to the apartment around 2:15 a.m. Friday. It was not immediately clear when the attack occurred, and further details were not disclosed.
The child was not injured.
A motive for the attack has not been disclosed, and it was not known Saturday if Reyes has retained a lawyer. He faces a life sentence if he’s convicted.
