ZILWAUKEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - It is less than 3 miles. But it could be the first step on a much longer run.
Saginaw County commissioners are meeting Tuesday to consider approving a 2.3-mile trail that could eventually become part of a 40-mile paved trail in Saginaw, Midland and Bay counties.
Saginaw County parks chief John Schmude says that goal may take years. But he tells The Saginaw News (https://bit.ly/1qLD07V) a smaller local stretch is the “most logical place to kick things off.” It would start in Zilwaukee Township.
Most of the money, nearly $300,000, would come from a state recreation trust fund. More money would come from the Great Lakes Bay Regional Trail group.
