KIRYAS JOEL, N.Y. (AP) - An ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in New York’s Hudson Valley says it expects 70,000 people to attend a bonfire celebration.

Kiryas Joel in Orange County will host the bonfire Saturday night to mark the Jewish holiday of Lag Baomer (log bah-OH’-mer).

Local organizers say it is the largest such celebration in the United States. The village 40 miles north of New York City expects 70,000 people to attend this year.

Kiryas Joel was incorporated in 1977 by members of the Satmar Hasidic sect from Brooklyn.
