FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue University’s new tentative budget includes a nearly 3 percent drop in funding for Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne in response to an enrollment drop on the regional campus.
The operating budget approved Friday by Purdue’s trustees reduces the Fort Wayne school’s funding 2.9 percent for fiscal year 2015, cutting it to about $108 million.
Enrollment of full-time, part-time and dual-enrollment high school students at the school is about 13,000, making it Indiana’s fifth-largest college campus.
But the school saw about a 4.5 percent drop in enrollment during the 2014 fiscal year.
Interim vice chancellor for financial affairs Stan Davis tells The Journal Gazette (https://bit.ly/1jU76Bh ) school officials are working to boost enrollment.
An $8.4 million budget shortfall last year prompted IPFW to lay off workers and leave some non-teaching posts vacant.
