ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A fire last week in the Glenn Highway community of Sutton killed a 75-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man.

Alaska State Troopers say Eleanor Riley and Michael Armstrong died in the May 9 fire.

A third person in the house, a 46-year-old man, narrowly escaped.

He told troopers he awoke around 1 a.m., opened his bedroom door and saw thick, black smoke filling the home. He crawled to the front door and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

The state fire marshal is investigating the fire. The cause has not been determined.

Sutton is about 11 miles east of Palmer.
