JACKSON, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a pipe bomb explosion outside a home where his estranged wife had been staying.
The Southeast Missourian (https://bit.ly/1n56oQz ) reports that David Salzmann was sentenced Friday.
The explosion happened June 9 in Cape Girardeau. Salzmann, in court, called the crime the biggest mistake of his life.
Salzmann detonated the bomb as a patrolman approached the Cadillac where Salzmann was sitting. The officer was not hurt. Salzmann was injured but recovered.
Salzmann’s attorney, Jason Tilley, says his client was “profoundly depressed” and did not intend to harm anyone else.
