MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Meridian Mayor Percy Bland says he wants to hire a new city attorney.
The Meridian Star reports (https://bit.ly/RGWcUd ) that the city will not renew Michael Goggans’ job contract, which expires at the end of June.
Bland says he is pleased with Goggans’ work and the city will continue using his expertise for several projects. Goggans was Bland’s choice for city attorney when the mayor first took office last July.
Goggans says Wednesday that the change is not a surprise. He says he agrees the city needs to be represented by a larger law firm.
Bland would not disclose which lawyers might be considered for the job.
