SHELBY, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a man has died after his car crashed off a rural western New York road and ended up in a marsh.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office tells local media that 31-year-old Jeffrey Muntz was driving west on Podunk Road around 9:45 p.m. Thursday when he crossed the center line, left the road and traveled more than 150 feet before crashing into marshland in the town of Shelby, 30 miles east of Buffalo.

Deputies say witnesses spotted the car partially submerged in about 3 feet of water and pulled Muntz out before an ambulance crew arrived.

He later died at Medina Memorial Hospital. Muntz lived in Oakfield in neighboring Genesee County.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
