MAPLE PARK, Ill. (AP) - Illinois education officials are recognizing two Kane County schools for academic improvement.
State Schools Superintendent Christopher Koch (KUK’) visited Kaneland Senior High School on Thursday to highlight the school and Nicholson Elementary School of West Aurora.
The schools received the state’s Academic Improvement Award.
The 2013 Illinois Honor Roll lists 177 schools from 99 districts across Illinois.
“Spotlight Schools” include 37 high-poverty, high-performing schools. “Academic Excellence Awards” go to 23 schools that have sustained high performance over at least three years.
“Academic Improvement Awards” recognize 125 schools showing substantial improvement.
Kaneland High School has more than 1,300 students from Elburn, Maple Park, Sugar Grove, Montgomery, Aurora, Virgil, Kaneville, Cortland and North Aurora. Nicholson Elementary School has 327 students in kindergarten through 5th grade.
