NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say an apparently drunken driver who piggybacked his way through a New York police headquarters security gate has been arrested after crashing into another gate and a security column.

Police says the 41-year-old driver apparently did not intend to ram the gate with the four-door sedan early Friday.

They say the man and a female passenger have been treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

The man was taken to a police station, where he’ll be tested for intoxication.

Police say the driver tailed an authorized vehicle that was cleared to pass through the checkpoint.

He entered 1 Police Plaza before a security officer had time to raise the gate.

That’s when they say the driver crashed into the following gate.
