SKANEATELES, N.Y. (AP) - Three teenagers have been rescued from a central New York lake after gusty winds capsized their canoe.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says a 911 call came in shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday from a person who reported seeing a canoe being pulled toward the middle of Skaneateles (skin-ee-AT’-luhs) Lake by high winds.

While emergency crews were heading to the scene, the boat capsized. The sheriff’s office says the three teenagers were treading water, not wearing life jackets.

An employee of the Skaneateles Marina saw the boat in trouble and headed out with a pontoon boat. The teenagers, 18 and 19 years old, were pulled to safety and were treated onshore by emergency crews.
