PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. (AP) - Two Long Island women are under arrest for alleged rental fraud.

Suffolk County police say Lisa Liebetruth and Maria Rennick face scheme to defraud charges.

They say the defendants fraudulently collected about $7,000 in deposits for the room in their Port Jefferson Station home.

The women allegedly actively solicited people who posted ads on Craigslist looking for a rental.

Police say they would obtain cash deposits from the victims but never rented the room or returned the money. They then would cut off all communication with the victims.

Liebetruth was arraigned on the charges last month. Rennick was arrested Thursday and was set to be arraigned on Friday.

Information about their attorneys wasn’t immediately available.
