ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A 49-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for killing his former Rochester neighbor in April 2007, then setting fire to her apartment to cover up the crime.
The Monroe County district attorney’s office says Darrell Boyd was sentenced Wednesday for beating and strangling 54-year-old Katharina Lawn in her apartment.
Prosecutors say a critical piece of evidence was Boyd’s DNA found underneath Lawn’s fingernails.
Prosecutors say Boyd was angry at Lawn for calling the police on him two years earlier during a domestic dispute, which resulted in Boyd spending more than a year in prison.
