OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Police say a high-profile lobbyist and former chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party has been arrested on suspicion of drug possession.
Oklahoma City Police Capt. Dexter Nelson says 40-year-old Chad Alexander was arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop in northwest Oklahoma City. A police report shows officers found more than three grams of cocaine and nine prescription pills inside a 2014 Mercedes that Alexander was driving.
Sheriff’s spokesman Mark Meyers says Alexander was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on suspicion of drug possession and released on $5,000 bond.
Criminal charges have not been filed.
Alexander’s clients include the University of Oklahoma and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
Alexander apologized in a statement Thursday and said he was taking a leave of absence for drug addiction treatment.
