IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A marijuana-themed sub shop has closed in the college town of Iowa City after opening more than three years ago with high expectations.

Franchise owner Seth Larsen told the Iowa City Press-Citizen (https://icp-c.com/1jLGe6u ) that Iowa City’s Cheba Hut was the worst performer among the 15 in the chain. He says Tuesday’s closure was the corporation’s first failure.

When the shop opened in February 2011, sandwich names included the Silver Haze, the Afghani, the Acapulco Gold and the Majic Mushroom. Cannabis-themed art adorned the walls.

Larsen says the Midwest “is a tough market for us. It’s a bummer, really.”
