MUSEKGON, Mich. (AP) - A high school in western Michigan is getting ready to hold its prom aboard a World War II landing ship.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1ljJy6C ) the Muskegon Catholic Central High School prom takes place Saturday at the USS LST 393 Veterans Museum in Muskegon.

The landing ship tank was launched in 1942 and museum officials say more than 9,000 military members made their way into battle in Europe aboard LST 393. Decommissioned in 1946, the ship was used to carry automobiles across Lake Michigan. It later became a museum.
