CHICAGO (AP) - The owner of a vacant building where a roof collapsed during a 2010 fire and killed two Chicago firefighters has been sentenced to six months in jail.
Cook County prosecutors said Thursday that 65-year-old Chuck Dai pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a court order that required him to secure and fix the property before the blaze.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office says Dai pleaded guilty to a felony charge of criminal contempt of court. The release also says the South Holland resident also will pay a fine of more than $5,200.
Forty-seven-year-old Edward Stringer and 34-year-old Corey Ankum were killed and more than a dozen other firefighters were injured when the roof of a vacant laundry facility collapsed on Dec. 22, 2010.
