MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) - Hundreds of city kids were able to learn about farm safety during an Ag Safety Day in Muscatine.
The Muscatine Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1oTr9jj ) about 400 students from two middle schools attended the event Wednesday at the Ag Learning Center.
Although they don’t live on farms, organizers note most Iowa children visit farms periodically and need to learn about potential dangers.
Students joined in a number of hands-on activities, including a small grain bin simulator where they learned how hard it is to pull out someone who is buried in grain.
Jason Paris, a Monsanto employee who helped lead events, says when city kids visit farms, they like to check out the harvested grain. The simulator makes clear why they shouldn’t play in grain bins or grain wagons.
