AURORA, Ill. (AP) - The mayor of Illinois’ second-largest city plans to shave his head to raise money for two sick teenagers.

Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner is scheduled to participate in the event, dubbed “Shave for the Students,” on Thursday.

In a news release, city officials say Weisner recently met the two teens, whose names were not released.

The 15-year-old boy has Crohn’s disease, and he and his mother travel to Chicago weekly for treatments. They rely on public transportation or friends because they don’t have a car.

The 19-year-old girl has Rett syndrome. She is now too old to qualify for a program that covered the costs of her prescriptions, so her family has had to pay for the drugs themselves.
