ST. LOUIS (AP) - Authorities say four Mississippi River boaters were safely rescued near St. Louis after the vessel struck a submerged rock formation and began taking on water.

The Army Corps of Engineers says the accident happened about 4 p.m. Wednesday near the McKinley Bridge linking Missouri to Illinois.

The Army Corps says the private cabin cruiser hit a man-made rock formation known as a chevron while en route from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Alton, Illinois, north of St. Louis.

The boaters’ names were not released.
