PALMER, Alaska (AP) - A small wildfire in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough is not threatening structures, but is burning within three-quarters of a mile a home.

Alaska Division of Forestry Fire Management Officer Norm McDonald tells The Associated Press that the fire is about 21 acres in size Thursday.

The fire started late Wednesday in the Butte area near Palmer. It’s off the road system, and firefighters either have to hike or four-wheel to the site.

One hotshot crew is working the fire now, and another crew is being recalled from McCarthy.

A helicopter will be dropping water from buckets Thursday, and a plane is standing by if retardant is needed.

McDonald says homeowners on the east side of Butte are not being advised or ordered to evacuate.

Palmer is 45 miles northeast of Anchorage.
