NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa Bay-area man is dead after a deputy-involved shooting.

Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies attempted early Thursday to make contact with a suspect in an attempted arson at a used car lot.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Melanie Snow says Patrick Gerome Tillery had tried to set the business and cars in the lot on fire. Tillery also allegedly made threats against the lot’s owner.

Snow says that after deputies entered Tillery’s New Port Richey home, Tillery began firing at the deputies. They returned fire.

The deputies were not injured. Snow says Tillery died from multiple gunshot wounds.
