SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police in Salt Lake County have apprehended a suspect they’ve been chasing for a week in the disappearance of homeless toddler who was missing for days before she was reunited with her mother.

Police say 39-year-old Jamie Webb was arrested Tuesday night after an officer spotted him making a phone call on the side of the road in West Valley.

Lt. Justin Hoyal says Webb was wanted on a warrant related to aggravated assault.

Webb was the caretaker of 15-month-old Sophea Larsen. Police say he fled when served with a court order last week demanding he turn the Taylorsville girl over to her mother.

He eventually returned the child to a relative, who contacted police, but had eluded detectives since then. He’s been booked into the Salt Lake County jail.
