YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Police have identified a person of interest in the case of a so-called mystery pooper who has been soiling slides at an Ypsilanti playground over a period of months.

In a news release Wednesday, Lt. Deric Gress says detectives have talked to the person.

And while Gress stopped short of calling the person a suspect, he did say “it appears that this contact with law enforcement has corrected the behavior of the individual.”

Police have been keeping an eye on Prospect Park to make sure no more surprises were being left overnight.

In a January email, Ypsilanti Police Chief Tony DeGiusti asked officers to be on the lookout for a “miscreant” who doesn’t “understand the difference between a children’s playground slide and a toilet.”
