SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Police in Syracuse have charged a man whose two pit bulls attacked a man who was trying to break up a fight between his dog and the other two canines.
Officials tell local media that a 51-year-old man told them his German shepherd was outside a home late Monday night when it was attacked by the pit bulls.
The man stepped in to break up the fight and was severely bitten on his arm and hand. When he told the owner of the pit bulls that he was going to call police, the owner fled the scene with his dogs.
He was later found and charged with assault. The 29-year-old man is being held in the Onondaga County jail. His dogs were turned over to authorities.
The injured man was treated at a Syracuse hospital.
