HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - An Olive Branch man who authorities said was drunk when he crashed his pickup into a car, killing the driver and injuring a 6-year-old boy, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

DeSoto County Assistant District Attorney Steven Jubera tells The Commercial Appeal (https://bit.ly/1g577Cy ) Robert Shawn, 28, pleaded Monday guilty to DUI resulting in injury, a felony, in the 2012 death of 37-year-old Timothy Brigman and the severe injury to Brigman’s 6-year-old son.

On Nov. 3, 2012, prosecutors said Hunt was driving his Ford F-150 pickup when it crashed into Brigman’s car at a DeSoto County intersection. Prosecutors said Hunt’s blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent - above the 0.08 percent legal limit - at the time of the crash.



Brigman, of Hernando died on the scene. His 6-year-old son was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital with severe injuries.

Hunt was arrested and indicted on a charge of DUI resulting in Death and DUI resulting in permanent injury.

He pleaded guilty to DUI resulting in injury. He faced a maximum of 25 years in prison and a minimum of five years.

He was sentenced to 10 years with five years of supervised release. He must pay a $1,000 fine and complete a long-term drug and alcohol program while in prison.

The charge of DUI resulting in death was remanded to file as part of Hunt’s plea. Remanding a case to file means it won’t be prosecuted, Jubera said.
