MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - A man charged in the fatal drive-by shooting of a 17-year-old western Michigan high school basketball player has testified against another defendant in the case.
The Muskegon Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1mZ1a8L ) Wednesday that 19-year-old Ryheim Beasley reached a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to second-degree murder in Marquis Gresham’s slaying.
Beasley was the main witness against 20-year-old Shundarius Lawson during Wednesday’s preliminary examination. Beasley said he drove Lawson to a Muskegon Heights corner and that Lawson fired one shot into a crowd of youths.
He testified that Lawson wasn’t aiming at a specific target.
Gresham, a junior at Muskegon Heights High School, was walking to a sports banquet April 23 when he was struck.
Muskegon County 60th District Judge Michael Nolan later ordered Lawson to stand trial for murder.
