LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Lafayette Parish school officials have suspended a substitute bus driver pending an investigation of a report that a 10-year-old student was left on the school bus at the end of the route Monday afternoon.

Angela Morrison, school district spokeswoman, tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1iL7YDd ) the student had fallen asleep and exited the bus when the driver stopped to run a personal errand.

Morrison says a neighbor noticed the student and called the parent, who located the student. The student was not injured.

Morrison says the driver is a Lafayette Parish school system transportation office employee who also fills in as needed as a substitute driver due to the shortage of substitutes.
