FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Officers from several police agencies in eastern South Carolina are in Florence County after human remains were found on the land of a private hunting club along the Great Pee Dee River.

Authorities say the remains were found Wednesday morning. An autopsy will be needed to determine if the body was a woman or a man, a cause of death and to draw DNA to help identify the person.

Deputies from Darlington County and police from Horry County joined Florence County deputies at the scene.

The remains were found about five miles south of the U.S. Highway 76 bridge over the Great Pee Dee River.
