HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (AP) - Officials say fire and an explosion heavily damaged a town house on a suburban New York golf course. No serious injuries were reported.

Greenburgh police Chief Christopher McNerney says the blast may have been a gas explosion.

It occurred as firefighters were battling the blaze on Turnberry Drive in Hastings, close to the St. Andrew’s Golf Club.

He says emergency workers had just rescued a woman from the second floor of the town house when the explosion erupted. The woman and an emergency worker suffered smoke inhalation.

McNerney says nearby units have been evacuated and gas has been shut off.

The chief says there is concern that the building could partially collapse.

The private St. Andrew’s club dates from the 19th century and has a Jack Nicklaus-designed course.
