PORT ALLEN, La. (AP) - West Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies are searching for a suspect who shot and killed a woman and her dog in a Port Allen mobile home park.

Sheriff Mike Cazes tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1oOjaEb ) 44-year-old Kerry Palmer had been shot and left wounded when she was found lying outside her mobile home. Cazes says deputies were called to the park at about 5 p.m. Monday after residents reported hearing gunshots.

The sheriff says Palmer was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. He says Palmer’s dog had been shot and killed.

Cazes says investigators initially thought the shooting might have stemmed from a domestic situation, but later obtained information indicating the shooting may have been results of a robbery.
