NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal judge has set a new trial date in a drug-and-weapons case connected to gunfire at a 2013 Mother’s Day parade in New Orleans where 20 people were hurt.

Prosecutors had asked for a delay in the trial, which had been set for June 16. They noted the complex nature of the case and the voluminous amount of evidence involved.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Ivan Lemelle set a new trial date of Aug. 11.

Among the nine defendants are brothers Akein (ah-KEEN’) and Shawn Scott, named by New Orleans police as the suspected gunmen at the neighborhood parade. State charges were dropped in favor of federal prosecution. The shooting is noted in one count of a seven-count indictment outlining an alleged heroin distribution conspiracy.
