MIDDLESEX, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say two hikers are fine after they got lost for a while on Mount Hunger and called for help.

Police said they got a 911 call from 20-year-old Abigail Staab of East Montpelier shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday. She and her friend, 21-year-old Katelyn Biron, also of East Montpelier, had gone hiking off the trail in Middlesex and were lost.

Waterbury Backcountry Rescue was contacted and responded to the trailhead. At about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, the hikers were found off trail on the Waterbury side of the summit.

Both women were uninjured and hiked out on their own power with the assistance of Waterbury Backcountry Rescue.
