DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) - The trial of a Weymouth man charged with manslaughter in the death of his father has started.
Opening statements in the trial of 22-year-old Michael Beaudry are scheduled for Tuesday in Norfolk Superior Court.
Prosecutors say Beaudry struck his father, 58-year-old Ronald Beaudry, on the head with a length of PVC pipe outside their home on Feb 3, 2013 after an argument.
The Patriot Ledger (https://bit.ly/1iNPMNC) reports that the father struck his head when he hit the ground. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Michael Beaudry was initially charged with murder and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Quincy District Court. A Norfolk County grand jury indicted him on the lesser charge of manslaughter.
He pleaded not guilty, saying it was an accident.
