Tea residents vote on school project a third time

TEA, S.D. (AP) - Voters in Tea are deciding on a proposed $9.9 million project to add elementary school classrooms and build a performing arts center.

Tuesday’s vote was the third in less than a year in which residents of the southeastern South Dakota school district were asked to approve construction projects. An $11 million bond measure failed in September, and a $10.5 million proposal failed in December. Both votes were close.

Supporters say crowding is a problem in the school district. Opponents say the proposed additions are a waste of money.
