EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The police chief in East Providence is retiring.
WJAR-TV (https://ow.ly/wNyp7 ) reports that Joseph Tavares is resigning, effective July 1.
Tavares has been chief in East Providence for five years.
He spent the first 30 years of his career in Warwick, and retired from that job in 2009 before being hired in East Providence.
