STAUNTON, Va. (AP) - Staunton police say the deaths of two dogs found hanging by their leashes in a kennel have been ruled as accidental.

Staunton police spokeswoman Jennifer Stevens says three dogs escaped from the kennel on May 4 after high winds lifted the structure and then dropped it on its side.

Stevens tells The News Leader (https://bit.ly/1g1BB8h ) that a 14-year-old neighbor caught two of the dogs and secured them to the kennel with retractable leashes. The teen then left the scene.

Stevens says the dogs were hanged when high winds lifted the kennel upright later that day.

No charges were filed.
