UPPER DARBY, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say rescue crews pulled a highway worker to safety after he fell down a manhole in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Delaware County officials say emergency responders were called to an Upper Darby block shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday.

A township employee was exiting the manhole when he slipped on one of the rungs and fell.

Crews managed to hoist the man from the 14-foot hole.

Upper Darby officials said the man walked to an ambulance, which took him to a hospital to be checked out. His name wasn’t released.
