A top female politician in the northern Spanish city of Leon was fatally shot by a woman in public, according to a BBC report.
Isabel Carrasco, the local head of Spain’s ruling Popular Party, was shot several times by a young woman as she crossed a footbridge on her way to a party meeting.
The suspect was arrested, the report said.
The Popular Party tweeted Monday, as translated by Google: “We are shocked by the murder of our colleague Isabel Carrasco. We send all our love and support to his family.”
