LOS LUNAS, N.M. (AP) - The family of a 12-year-old who authorities say was killed by his 15-year-old playmate hope to make the abandoned New Mexico field where he found into a park.
KOB-TV reports (https://goo.gl/aexmKg) that Rosa Delgado said last week the owner of the land recently donated it to the family.
In March, Delgado’s nephew, 12-year-old Alex Madrid, was found dead in Meadowlake, a small community east of Los Lunas.
The 15-year-old suspect still is being held in the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center. His attorney says she doesn’t believe her client is competent to stand trial.
The boy’s mother, 38-year-old Loretta Villalobos, also is facing charges of child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Delgado also wants to build a handball wall to project movies on the weekends for family movie nights in the planned park.
