WENDOVER, Nev. (AP) - Authorities shut down a stretch of Interstate 80 near the Nevada-Utah line for several hours to investigate the discovery of a body on the highway.

The Utah Highway Patrol says a driver called dispatch about 3:30 a.m. Monday to report a possible dead animal on the road just east of Wendover, Nev.

When troopers arrived, they found a body that appeared to have been struck by multiple vehicles.

Investigators say they haven’t been able to determine the gender of the victim and aren’t sure when the person was hit initially.

The westbound lanes of I-80 were closed at mile marker No. 1 in Utah and traffic was diverted into Wendover until about 7:30 a.m. No other information has been released.
