BETHEL, Alaska (AP) - Two people are pocketing nearly $3,500 apiece for their ability to predict when the ice went out on the Kuskokwim River.
KYUK reports (https://is.gd/70KP2A) Harry Pavilla and Alvin Jimmie are the winners of this year’s Kuskokwim Ice Classic.
They both predicted that the tripod on the river would go out at 5 p.m., May 2, splitting the $6,927 jackpot.
The ice classic is a fundraiser for Bethel Regional High School, which will get about $6,400 from ticket sales.
This year’s beneficiaries are Special Olympics and Native Youth Olympics.
